Skin Analysis With Visia®

Skin-Analysis-With-Visia

Skin analysis is an incredibly useful tool when assessing your skin, as it helps to tailor the treatment plan to your specific skin type and needs. A thorough skin analysis will typically start with a set of questions, including the patient’s history and current skin care routine identifying problem areas, assessing the skin tone, hydration, and texture.

At Siperstein Dermatology Group, we have a team dedicated to excellence who offers various cosmetic procedures and skin services. We are always on the cutting edge, offering the newest techniques, procedures, and products to best care for our patients.

One of the new technological advancements in skin care is the Visia® computerized skin analysis machine. The computerized machine scans the skin through a process of multi-spectral imaging and highlights six to eight main areas of focus. From there, the team is able to offer advice on effective products and treatments to meet your needs.

Aspects Of Skin Analysis With Visia®

The information gathered from a Visia® computerized skin analysis can shed some light on very important details of the skin to ensure optimum treatment. The following are some of the areas that the machine will analyze.

  • Spots

visia skin analysis‘Spots’ is a broad term that is used to describe a variety of skin blemishes – some are brown, such as freckles, age spots and hyper-pigmentation; others are red, such as broken blood vessels and acne scars. Essentially, the term refers to brown or red lesions on the skin surface that cause irregularities.

Certain types of spots can be reduced through regular exfoliation, which works to speed the turnover of cells. Others can be treated with lightening creams or IPL laser. The machine can highlight these areas, which helps the estheticians to suggest the correct products and treatments to improve the color and tone of the skin.

  • Wrinkles

visia skin analysisHave you spent a lot of time in the sun lately? While the leading cause of the furrows, folds, and creases is aging, sun exposure also causes a breakdown of the collagen, which can lead to significant wrinkling of the skin. Other common causes of wrinkles include smoking and even various sleeping positions.

The Visia® machine can pick up these areas where skin elasticity has decreased, which helps our team offer the best solutions to reduce the aging look. We may suggest products, such as retinol or treatments, such as secret RF microneedling, which can build collagen over time and improve the look of wrinkles.

  • Texture

visia skin analysisHave you heard the saying “as smooth as a baby’s bottom?” Smooth-textured skin is a top priority for many people. The Visia® machine analyzes skin smoothness to assess the texture.

From here, the best treatment can be recommended, ranging from basic exfoliation techniques or hydrotherapy facials to help remove dead skin cells that are causing a rough texture.

  • Pores

visia skin analysisYour pores are the openings of hair follicles and contain sebaceous glands, which produce oil. Pores tend to be larger and more noticeable on the face where these glands are larger.

While it is very difficult to permanently shrink the size of pores, there are certain products that can temporarily reduce the size, such as retinol, or certain procedures that can help make them less visible, such as laser resurfacing. The Visia® machine will be able to highlight the size of your pores so that the most effective products and treatments can be used.

  • UV Spots

visia skin analysisOtherwise known as sunspots, these brown spots occur because UV light causes increased melanin, or pigment, production. This pigment then clumps in the cells, forming sun spots. They can be from natural UV light (the sun) or artificial UV light in tanning beds. We all are looking for smooth, even-toned skin. One of our favorite beauty tips is that we recommend wearing a daily moisturizer with sunblock, regardless of whether you are going to the beach or going to work. It should have a minimum of SPF 30 as recommended by the American Academy of Dermatology.

Treatments for sunspots typically involve IPL lasers and prescription strength lightening creams. We also recommend reparative products that contain high doses of antioxidants, such as Vitamin C, which help repair damage caused by free radicals.

  • Brown Spots

visia skin analysisBrown spots on the skin are not the result of one single cause. The dark lesions in the skin could be the result of hyper-pigmentation, (which can be caused by the sun or other skin injuries) freckles/lentigines, (largely due to age and sun exposure) and melasma (which appears as brown patches).

If the Visia® machine picks up many brown spots, treatment will be advised to reduce the pigment of the skin through various lightening creams or laser treatments. Prevention will also need to be considered, such as wearing sunblock on a daily basis.

  • Red Areas

    visia skin analysis

Red areas on the skin are easy to notice and can be caused by a variety of conditions. Some of the more popular conditions include acne, rosacea, or veins.

The best way to treat red areas on the face is usually a combination of lasers that target red pigment and products rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatories to calm the skin.

  • Porphyrins

visia skin analysisIt is completely normal to have natural bacteria that live in our oil glands. These bacteria produce pigment called porphyrins and can cause unpleasant skin conditions, such as acne, when they become lodged in the pores.

The easiest way to reduce acne from developing is to keep everyday items, such as cosmetics, cell phones, and pillow cases, clean and to cleanse the affected area regularly.
