The information gathered from a Visia® computerized skin analysis can shed some light on very important details of the skin to ensure optimum treatment. The following are some of the areas that the machine will analyze.

• Spots

  ‘Spots’ is a broad term that is used to describe a variety of skin blemishes – some are brown, such as freckles, age spots and hyper-pigmentation; others are red, such as broken blood vessels and acne scars. Essentially, the term refers to brown or red lesions on the skin surface that cause irregularities.

  Certain types of spots can be reduced through regular exfoliation, which works to speed the turnover of cells. Others can be treated with lightening creams or IPL laser. The machine can highlight these areas, which helps the estheticians to suggest the correct products and treatments to improve the color and tone of the skin.

• Wrinkles

  Have you spent a lot of time in the sun lately? While the leading cause of the furrows, folds, and creases is aging, sun exposure also causes a breakdown of the collagen, which can lead to significant wrinkling of the skin. • Pores

  Your pores are the openings of hair follicles and contain sebaceous glands, which produce oil. Pores tend to be larger and more noticeable on the face where these glands are larger.

  While it is very difficult to permanently shrink the size of pores, there are certain products that can temporarily reduce the size, such as retinol, or certain procedures that can help make them less visible, such as laser resurfacing. The Visia® machine will be able to highlight the size of your pores so that the most effective products and treatments can be used.

• UV Spots

  Otherwise known as sunspots, these brown spots occur because UV light causes increased melanin, or pigment, production. This pigment then clumps in the cells, forming sun spots. They can be from natural UV light (the sun) or artificial UV light in tanning beds. We all are looking for smooth, even-toned skin. One of our favorite beauty tips is that we recommend wearing a daily moisturizer with sunblock, regardless of whether you are going to the beach or going to work. It should have a minimum of SPF 30 as recommended by the American Academy of Dermatology.

  Treatments for sunspots typically involve IPL lasers and prescription strength lightening creams. We also recommend reparative products that contain high doses of antioxidants, such as Vitamin C, which help repair damage caused by free radicals.

• Brown Spots

  Brown spots on the skin are not the result of one single cause. The dark lesions in the skin could be the result of hyper-pigmentation, (which can be caused by the sun or other skin injuries) freckles/lentigines, (largely due to age and sun exposure) and melasma (which appears as brown patches).

  The easiest way to reduce acne from developing is to keep everyday items, such as cosmetics, cell phones, and pillow cases, clean and to cleanse the affected area regularly.
